I used to abhor ceremonies. Especially weddings. Quite ironic considering I write about weddings nowadays.

But I was a kid back then and I hated having to wear my starched dress and stay still for so many hours. Too many people fussed on you and then a minute later you might as well be an invisible fly on a white wall.

Like any other kid, I looked for chances to do a little mischief and then sigh with relief later at the site of sumptuous food on the reception table. As an adult I’ve come to appreciate the solemn feel of the ceremony but my face still lights up when it’s time to head to the reception.

The kid in me just won’t let me forget I guess.
